Zahra Barani, a graduate student research assistant and PhD student at the Phonon Optimized Engineered Materials Center (POEM) has received the 2022/2023 Dissertation Year Program (DYP) fellowship for the Summer 2022. Zahra’s dissertation focuses on the properties and applications of exotic quantum quasi-1D van der Waals materials in polymer-based composites for electromagnetic interference shielding management of electronics. The results of her research have been published in the prestigious journal of Advanced Materials (impact factor: 30.85) last year (link to the journal’s website.). Just recently, Zahra has also been recognized as an Outstanding Teaching Assistant (OTA) in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering for the 2021-2022 academic year. This distinction has been awarded based on her consistently superior teaching performance as recommended by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
